How Long Does It Take to Build a Custom Home in Spokane?

Plan on roughly 9–15 months from first meeting to move-in. Here’s where that time goes, and what can speed things up or slow them down.

It’s the first question almost everyone asks. The honest answer: every custom home is different, but most take at least 9–15 months from our first meeting to the day you get your keys.

Where the time goes

  • Budget and financing: getting pre-qualified with a lender who understands construction loans.
  • Land and planning: finding or evaluating a lot, and pricing infrastructure like a well, septic, and road access.
  • Design and selections: finalizing your floor plan, finishes, and features.
  • Permitting: plan review and approvals before we can break ground.
  • Construction: site work, foundation, framing, mechanicals, and finishes.
  • Walkthrough and move-in: final details, then the keys are yours.

What affects the timeline

Permitting, site development, and material availability all play a role, as do the design decisions you make along the way. Weather matters too. Inland Northwest winters can affect when certain stages happen, so we plan the schedule around the seasons.

How to keep things moving

  • Talk to a local lender early. Local lenders tend to handle personal construction loans better than national ones.
  • Know your all-in budget before shopping for land, including infrastructure costs.
  • Make key selections early so materials can be ordered on time.
You’ll be involved every step of the way and always in the loop about what’s happening on site.
